Love Bug…Fever Dream
Love Bug...Fever Dream is the third short film written and directed by Douglas Lawlor. There was a curiosity to work more experimentally after I completed Midnight Ticket. That film had a lot of issues in post-production which kept me from any new film projects for Two years longer than it should have. By the time it was done I was yearning to create something else. I decided to move away from the standard requirements of narrative storytelling and try and tell a story minimally. Using abstract video techniques and voiceover I sought to create something less demanding of cast and crew.
The production grew in the telling. While I began to make discoveries in capturing abstractions on video, I started feeling that simple voice-over would not be enough to tell the story I wrote and so auditions were held. I found a small cast and before too long I also hired a visual effects make-up artist and brought in a close friend to take control of camera department. Short and sweet, this is the first film I worked on since I moved to Oakland, California in 2016.
