No Quiero Verte is the fourth short film by Douglas Lawlor. It was written to have strong fluctuating power dynamics in a short run time. From the Beginning, a goal was to create a vehicle for constant building of tension. Introduce a problem and allow for it to escalate. It should be a fleeting experience that comes to an abrupt and intense close.
Visually we created a landscape that embodies this tension in a beautiful way using water and neon light. That color pallet is juxtaposed with another landscape of deep orange sunlight and thick shadow. The two locations, with different times of day, lighting, and weather work as an extension of the character’s situations and emotional states.
NVQ attempts to recreate a time the filmmakers are very nostalgic for in the late 1980s. Our locations, characters, props, and motor vehicles were chosen particularly with difficulty to match this.
