Planting Sleep

Planting Sleep is the first short film written and directed by Douglas Lawlor. Created while still attending VCU in Richmond, VA, this was his final project in their Film Program. Shot on 16mm reversal, Douglas set out to create a surrealist world that is drawn from the Universal Horror Classics of early Hollywood.

Much time and energy were put into creating or finding the proper locations to work with great contrast between an industrial setting and an overgrown forest setting. This begins to show Douglas’s interest in set design and the use of intense theatrical lighting. The film was completed in 2010.
